The Blues Essex Senior Cup hopes were dashed in Upminster as they bowed out of the competition on penalties. Billericay took the lead from a Joe Anderson cross that was put into his own net by a Hornchurch defender. The Urchins then made it 1-1 from Frankie Curley before the linesman gave a controversial goal having judged the ball to have gone over the line. The Blues equalised when Glenn Poole put away his penalty following a goalmouth scramble which saw Alex Bentley red carded for deliberate handball. The Blues looked to have won the game late on when Alex Osborn crossed for Charlie Taylor to convert. However with the last kick of the match a Lewis Smith shot somehow squirmed under the body of Alex Bonnard. With no extra-time the tie went straight to penalties with Hornchurch progressing through 4-1.
Billericay's defence of the Essex Senior Cup ended at the first hurdle on Tuesday night as the Blues came up against a strong Colchester United side with plenty of league experience. Paul Semakula gave Blues an early lead but the visitors equalised before half time and scored twice more after the break to win the tie.
