Billericay 2-0 Great Wakering Rovers (ESC)
Match Reports - Essex Senior Cup

Goals from Sean Bonnett-Johnson and James Lawson saw Billericay through to the semi-finals of the Essex Senior Cup on a wet New Lodge evening.

With Ryan O'Rawe ineligible and Harrison Chatting rested, Benson Kpaka and Bertie Brayley were handed starts in a strong Billericay side. It was the visitors who made the brighter start, however, and Billericay were almost caught napping when a Dan Trenkel shot squirmed out of the hands of 'keeper Ashley Jones who was grateful to see the ball bounce against the post and away to safety.

Gradually the home side began to establish a degree of dominance, pushing forward despite the increasingly treacherous conditions. Cedric Ngakam almost opened the scoring when he chased a through ball and although Scott Keys got to the ball first his attempted clearance hit the shins of the Town forward and flew narrowly over.

Bertie Brayley then went close when he fired wide after beating a couple of challenges before the deadlock was finally broken on the half hour mark. A free kick to the left of the Wakering goal was played short to Sean Bonnett-Johnson who curled his shot over the keeper and inside the far post.

The visitors started the second half brightly, but again could only manage shots from distance, not a bad tactic given the conditions, but Jones was equal to everything they could offer. The game was wrapped up on he hour mark when Bonnett Johnson delivered a teasing free kick from the Billericay right that looked to have evaded everybody in the box until James Lawson arrived at the back post to stoop and head the ball in.

The second goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of the visitors who were unable to offer much hope of a comeback as the conditions began to take their toll and tiredness set in. Perhaps the only disappointment for the Blues was that they were unable to add to their tally although Cedric Ngakam did go close to a well deserved goal when he shot just past the post.
