Billericay's FA Trophy run came to an end on Saturday after Rushden and Diamonds' seventy third minute goal finally broke their stubborn resistance. The conference side had to work hard to get their win and the large number of travelling supporters that made the trip from Billericay can reflect that the Blues were just twenty minutes away from forcing a replay.

Ten man Billericay produced a battling performance to hold on for fifty minutes to take this FA Trophy tie against in-form Hitchin Town to a replay. With Dave McSweeney having been sent off shortly before half time for a reckless challenge, Town spent much of the second half on the back foot but, thanks largely to a determined display by Lee Kersey and Greg Oates at the heart of the rearguard, were able to keep Hitchin at arms length. The visitors, currently top of the table in the Zamaretto League Midlands Division, offered little in attack, even with a man advantage and will have been the more disappointed that they will have to do it all over again on Tuesday.

Billericay reached the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy with an ultimately convincing replay win over Barton Rovers. A Danny Green brace and another goal for the rapidly improving James Baker were enough to take a patched-up Blues side through to a home tie with Hitchin Town.
