Match Reports - Friendlies

Match report by Simon Williams.

Billericay's pre-season campaign continued on Thursday when they sent a team to Burnham Ramblers. Manager Brian Statham took the opportunity to take a look at some of the players who had not previously featured much in Town's friendlies, with seven of the starting XI coming from last year's Capital League side.

The inexperienced Blues team struggled to get going in the first half and were two down at the half time break. Jamie Clarke opened the scoring with a dipping shot from 35 yards that gave Danny Fowler no chance, before Lewis Wilkin doubled the advantage with a diving header. Billericay also lost Russell Pond to a boot in the face, but his replacement, Jamie Dormer, brought a measure of composure to Town's midfield interlinking well with Micky Shinn.

Billericay pulled a goal back when Luca Frankis latched on to Jack West's chest down to beat the keeper at his near post, but almost immediately Ash Hawkins scored the home side's third. A mix-up between Dean Neil and his defence then presented Hawkins with the opportunity to score his second of the evening and wrap up a deserved win for his side.

For Billericay fans, the best news of the evening came from the warm-up where strikers Joe Flack and James Baker could be seen going through their paces. Both players, who have yet to feature in pre-season, reported that they were hopeful of playing against either Brentwood or Barnet in the coming week.
