Billericay returned to winnings ways as they secured a third round spot in the League Cup.
It was an unfamiliar side for the Blues with Craig Edwards giving debuts to Richard Halle and former Bray Wanderers player Emeka Onwubiko. There was also a re-debut for the popular Andy Tomlinson who came in at left back. In all there were six changes from Saturday’s side that lost to Leatherhead. The changes meant a first start of the season for the Blues own ‘Captain Invincible’ Chris Wild and the return of Harrison Chatting.
The opening exchanges were shaded by the visitors. They took the lead when a controversial free-kick was awarded just outside the area and Stuart Thurgood duly smashed home. At the other end Harrison Chatting, Jay May and Courtney White all went close as the Blues looked to fight back. Then just before half-time, a Harrison Chatting cross found the head of Chris Wild who powerfully headed home his second goal of the season.
The second half was mainly dominated by the Blues. Benson Kpaka and Jay May both drew saves from the keeper. The winner duly came with 20 minutes to go. Courtney White beat his man on the wing, cut inside into the area before calmly passing to Jay May who smashed home from close range.
The Blues now move into the third round. Opponents and draw dates are currently unknown.
