Billericay maintained their push for the Ryman league title with a hard fought win at home to Met Police on Saturday. A first half penalty from Richard Halle and a second half header from Dave Collis saw Town take the points.

Billericay boss Craig Edwards handed an immediate recall to Courtney White after his loan at Waltham Forest came to an end, while Harrison Chatting was selected on the left of a midfield that, with Glenn Poole playing through the middle, had a more adventurous look to it.

Met Police made a strong start to the game, but gradually Billericay began to string a few passes together and duly won a penalty when a quick move ended with Harrison Chatting feeding Courtney White who was tripped by Ryan James just as he pulled his foot back for a shot at goal. Richard Halle maintained his 100% record from the spot to give Blues the lead.

Billericay almost doubled their advantage shortly before the break when the impressive White beat Elliott Taylor before feeding Jay May, but his shot lacked power and Jamie Butler had an easy save. The visitors’ best moment of the half came on the stroke of half time when Eddie Smith’s header drew a good save from Dale Brightley.

Met Police drew level early in the second half when Billericay were caught napping at the back, allowing a quick counter attack that ended with Jack MacLeod heading past Brightley into the net.

Jamie Butler was the busier keeper in the second half and he made another important save after a driving run from Harrison Chatting ended with the young winger shooting through a crowded area.

The winner came ten minutes from the end when James Hawes’ left wing cross found Dave Collis in plenty of space at the far post. Collis planted his header past Butler who was left planted to the spot.

A late push from the visitors saw Sam Hurrell denied by a combination of Brightley and Chris Wild, who headed off the line after the ‘keeper had made the save but Billericay hung on to take the points.
