A thumping Chris Wild header early in the second half was enough to give Billericay the three points at New Lodge on Tuesday. The win made it three wins out of three for the Blues at New Lodge so far this season, and gave them a return of ten points from was considered to be a tough start to the campaign.
Billericay made three changes to the side that travelled to Sutton with experienced former Braintree keeper Nicky Morgan coming in for his debut and Junior Luke and Matt Hall playing instead of Ryan O'Rawe and the suspended Cedric Ngakam.
Town made a bright start to the game with Wealdstone 'keeper Jonathan North doing well to hold a well struck shot from Hall, whilst Leon McKenzie thought he had scored when he headed in Luke's cross but was denied by the linesman's flag.
As the half wore on, some sloppy Billericay play invited Wealdstone into the game as more of an attacking force, but they were unable to seriously trouble debutant Morgan who dealt with everything the Londoners could throw at him.
The only goal of the game came five minutes into the second half. Town were awarded a free kick on the right wing for a foul on Junior Luke. Matt Hall delivered a telling cross that found Chris Wild unmarked and the big defender needed no second invitation to power home his header for his second goal of the season.
Billericay have had a good record against Wealdstone in recent seasons, and their visitors were growing increasingly frustrated. Kurtney Brooks was fortunate to stay on the pitch for an ugly two-footed lunge at Ian Cousins that left the Billericay captain needing treatment on the touchline.
As the game wore on, Wealdstone started leaving gaps at the back as the pushed forward in search of a goal. Dave Collis was presented with a good chance from just inside the area, but failed to make a clean contact with the ball, whilst when McKenzie broke he rounded the 'keeper but Wes Parker had done superbly to cover the danger and clear off the line.
