It's an interesting time at Billericay at the moment, for different reasons. Our teams are doing fantastically well, the first team, the reserves/U21's, and the U18's are all top of their divisions. The ladies having won promotion last season now sit just four points off the top of their division, and on Sunday they comfortably progressed through to the first round of the Women's FA Cup. Our Colts are also doing well, and it’s really nice to see groups of them at first team games, their enthusiasm adds to the atmosphere on the day, and they all look as if they are enjoying it. Our supporter numbers are creeping upwardly of late, which is encouraging, and to top it all, when it looked as though we were heading for an abandonment due to floodlight failure, Uncle Fester hung onto the cables, used his special powers to light the bulbs and we managed to get in the full 90 minutes.

I like the FA Cup for lots of reasons. It has financial rewards for those who progress, it often gives us games against unfamiliar teams and venues, which is a welcome change, it’s a break from the League pressure, but most of all I like the romance, the very fact that little ol' Billericay takes part in the best football competition in the world. It will be won by one of the footballing giants but WE will have been part of that. We are playing in the FA Cup!

That’s the number of goals seen at New Lodge in the last three senior home games, a 4-4 thriller V’s Bury, a 6-0 demolition of Kingstonian and a cruise-controlled 8-2 win against Essex United.
This time last season in our league campaign we had accumulated 7 points and scored 6 goals, we’re already a point in front of that and have upped our goal tally to an impressive 14 goals scored. I thought it was a bit harsh that our team received some criticism for a 2-1 loss away at league favourites Lewes, third game into a new season. We have to be realistic and realise we’re not going to win every game. The best way of making a positive difference is by encouraging and supporting the team at every game. If our players are in need of a swift kick up the jaxi, Craig has done the FA course for that (and I’m told he was top of his class). So lets get behind the lads and remain positive for the rest of the season.

I’ve yet to see us take all three points at Harrow Borough but I have no doubt that, one day it will happen. It was an entertaining game I thought with lots of chances for both sides. Although we didn’t test the keeper enough last night, we did create lots of the chances. Our squad has proven goalscorers so it won’t be long before we’re firing on all cylinders.
