It's about time it stopped raining on Billericay

I had a chat with a few supporters after the game Saturday, it seems I need to clarify a few things.

I have made some comments recently like “I’ve been saddened with certain things” and  “to be careful what you wish for”. These were broad in that they were about the club, so could and have been interpreted in many different ways

I’ve been disappointed with many things this season and this will include:

Some people have chosen to listen and believe whispers and rumours..

The BTSA has become dysfunctional and almost non-existent.

Our Colts section has drifted away to such an extent that they seem to be a completely separate club.

There’s a lot of bitching and back-biting going on.

And of course, on the pitch we have under performed.

What I’ve tried and failed to do these past 6 years, was to unite the various different factions, and clubs that were operating under the umbrella of BTFC.

I still think that’s a shame, but it’s the reality so we, and I, are going to have to adjust.

The right path

I’ve become a little concerned about some comments I read on the forum with regards to our U18s.

Although I can see that they are written with good intention and are meant to be in support of the lads, they are, IMO, potentially damaging.

Raising their expectations to an unrealistic level can have disastrous effects, only a few months ago a promising young player believed that he was capable of and should have been playing at Step 3, but when reality set in the lad was devastated. I don’t want the same to happen to our current crop, they need to be nurtured. They are a talented bunch of lads, and they will continue to improve, but they must be given realistic goals, within a realistic time frame. If this is done right, then they stand every chance of fulfilling a paid career in football.

It’s at times like these that I think of Jim Hall

Well it's not been the start we expected. Pre-season it looked as if we had assembled a good squad, a squad who were capable of competing at the top end of the table - how wrong we were.

At the time I thought we were unlucky Vs  Wealdstone, Hendon  & Waltham Abbey. We played good football and created a hatful of chances in those games but were unable to gain all three points.

But here we are just 11 weeks in and already we’re having to rebuild the side. It’s not ideal, but it has to be done, and if it’s not right this time and we have to rebuild again, then that’s what we will do, and we will continue to do, until we get it right. Giving up isn’t an option.  It’s at times like these that I think of Jim Hall, Jim was a fighter he never gave up.
