I like the FA Cup for lots of reasons. It has financial rewards for those who progress, it often gives us games against unfamiliar teams and venues, which is a welcome change, it’s a break from the League pressure, but most of all I like the romance, the very fact that little ol' Billericay takes part in the best football competition in the world. It will be won by one of the footballing giants but WE will have been part of that. We are playing in the FA Cup!
Our Last couple of games have been interesting, in front of a huge crowd, or mediocre crowd, or maybe even an average crowd, I’m not quite sure which, but we gained a very welcome three points. Carshalton have very good players so to take all three points, in their back yard was a fantastic result and I was just as pleased with that one-nil win as I was with the 6-0 win the week before.
Tuesday game V’s Concord was a grind, in a quiet and tense atmosphere, we weren't a’t at our best and didn’t move the ball as sharply as we had in the previous few matches, also we didn’t work as hard as Concord Rangers, but having said that we had the better of the chances and perhaps should have won. The big loss though was Greg Oates, he is sidelined for a couple of months at least with an ankle fracture, which he tried to run off!! (I can’t see some of our past or present players trying that).
If you are coming on Saturday, bring a friend, bring a family member, bring someone new, lets try and rebulid our support, rebuild our club, encouraging someone new to visit costs nothing, but it will have a positive impact on our club.
See you Saturday'
COYB, let's get to the first round proper!
