Match Preview: Blues v Cray Wanderers

Buzzing Blues welcome high flying Cray to New Lodge

Edwards ‘Biggest problem will be picking the side’

New striker expected to be in the squad
By Paul Jennings

Top of the table Billericay welcome 4th placed Cray Wanderers to New Lodge on Saturday as the Blues continue their quest for promotion from The Ryman Premier League.

With his squad still in high spirits from last Saturday’s derby day victory at Canvey, a win that bought boss Craig Edwards to comment that ‘I’ve never been there and won so comfortably’, the Blues will go into the game full of confidence.

‘My biggest problem for Saturday is picking the side, especially after Wednesday night’s friendly at Witham’ said Edwards.

‘We won the game 4 -1. It was a tremendous performance and all involved were excellent.’

‘The easiest decision would be to remain unchanged from the last league 2 games, but we want to keep fresh. I’m really pleased with the squad. I’ve got 18 strong, fresh players for the run in and it’s really important that we have that. We must stay fresh and just need a bit of luck to steer clear of injuries.’

The trip to Witham gave Edwards the chance to give key members of his squad a much needed 90 minutes. It was also a chance to look at a player who Edwards recently made a 7 day approach for.

‘The game gave us the opportunity to look at Jared Small who is currently with Grays Athletic and the son of ex West Ham player Mike Small. Jared has great pace and plays on the shoulder of the last defender. He really impressed me and got 2 great goals. We hope to sit down with him in the next couple of days and sign him.’

In other player news, Junior Luke is due to go on a month long loan to Aveley in order to regain his fitness following his recent absence through suspension.  Richard Halle is welcomed back to the squad for the Cray game following the completion of his 2 game suspension and midfielder Craig Edwards is progressing in his recovery from his recent knee surgery and is expected to return in the next 2 weeks.

Cray are having a great season and currently sit comfortably in the play off zone. They are unbeaten in their last 6 league games, the last of these a 2-1 victory over Met Police last weekend
