Billericay through to next round of League Cup after Beating Yaxley 2-3 on 4th October 2009 Match report by Kim Coster.
For the second week running Billericay Town Ladies had the more positive start of the two teams and their pace had Yaxley on the back foot from the kick off. On the 11th minute Billericay won a corner. Sam Edwards strength saw her out jump two defenders but her header was cleared off the line. Billericay won the ball back quickly and forced another corner. Sam Edwards header was cleared off the line again but Vanessa Wilson won the clearance and volleyed the ball into the back of the net. This spurred Billericay forward and Lisa Silverton was unlucky not to treble the score but her persistence finally paid off in the 26th minute when Sam Edwards collected the ball from a goal kick and sweetly passed the ball to the advancing Silverton. Silverton cut inside her defender and slotted the ball past the keeper. Credit to Yaxley they didn’t give up and continued to try and force Billericay back into their own half. The Yaxley keeper ensured the score remained 0-2 up at half time.
Second half saw Billericay continue their attacking play and the home cross bar and posts were well challenged. This appeared to affect the play and Billericay lost concentration while Yaxley picked up on defensive errors and got back into the game. Yaxley's confidence was high and this allowed them to play some really good football. Hollie Dimambro had to pull off some crucial saves until the 70th and 78th minute when Yaxley scored getting themselves back into the game. It looked as if the previous weeks events were going to happen again but Sophie Whiting with her first touch of the game, received the ball with her back to goal. Her strength saw her roll off the defender and with a quick glance up saw the keeper was off her line and chipped the ball sweetly into the far corner. Yaxley had the opportunity to get the equaliser in the final minutes but Dimambro kept her cool and ensured Billericay secured the win.
Kim Coster quoted after the game "we didn’t play as well as we could and the overall team lacked pace and concentration. Yaxley were unlucky not to get something out of the game. They have some good players and their keeper was superb. I would like to thank them for their hospitality and wish them well for remainder of the season".
The Ladies Reserves are home to Tigers 2pm KO at New Lodge 11th October 2010, the 1st team have a free week but will be cheering their team mates on.
