Man arrested in footballer assault probe
POLICE have arrested a man in connection with a vicious assault that left a Billericay footballer paralysed in hospital.
Goalkeeper Nicky Morgan (pictured), who plays for Ryman League club Billericay Town, was left paralysed from the waist down after the attack outside the back of the Sugar Hut in William Hunter Way, Brentwood, around 2.30am on 28 October 2011.
Detectives investigating the fight have arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of GBH. The man, from Sittingbourne, is currently in police custody.
Twenty-five-year-old Morgan is still in Queen’s Hospital but is expecting to be transferred to spinal unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital to continue his rehabilitation today (Tuesday).

Glenn Poole is player well known to Craig Edwards. Glenn scored 58 goals from midfield in the two seasons he spent with Craig at Ford United. From there Glenn moved on to a very successful Grays Athletic picking up an FA Trophy winners medal before moving again, this time into the Pro ranks with Brentford and Barnet. More recently Glenn has played at AFC Wimbledon, Braintree and Thurrock.
Here is a link to some of Glenn’s goals when he was with Brentford http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9L_3r4zgpA
Welcome to Billericay, Glenn Poole. |

After moving to University Paul Semakula has found the travelling too much and has moved on to Maidenhead United. It was taking Paul well over two hours to get to the club, almost a five hour round trip. Paul has told us he was very happy at Billericay and wishes us well for the rest of the season. We are obviously disappointed Paul has to go but fully understand his reasons. We wish Paul well and thank him for his efforts this season.
Better news is that after having a meeting last night with Harrison we have taken him off the transfer list. As we have always made clear Harrison is a very important member of the squad. He agreed that his reaction to not playing was wrong. Since being placed on the transfer list Harrison has really knuckled down and made us realise it would be a mistake to let him go. We are happy to put the matter behind us.

David had become increasingly frustrated over the past few weeks, seeking a pay increase. Improved terms were offered, but in return the club required a contract commitment from David which he was not prepared to do.
During the half time period at Saturdays game V’s Wealdstone there was an exchange of views which resulted in David Knight throwing his shirt to the floor, storming out to his car and driving off. No further comment will be made at this time. |
