Man arrested in footballer assault probe
POLICE have arrested a man in connection with a vicious assault that left a Billericay footballer paralysed in hospital.
Goalkeeper Nicky Morgan (pictured), who plays for Ryman League club Billericay Town, was left paralysed from the waist down after the attack outside the back of the Sugar Hut in William Hunter Way, Brentwood, around 2.30am on 28 October 2011.
Detectives investigating the fight have arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of GBH. The man, from Sittingbourne, is currently in police custody.
Twenty-five-year-old Morgan is still in Queen’s Hospital but is expecting to be transferred to spinal unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital to continue his rehabilitation today (Tuesday).
