The young Blues booked their place in the Quarter Finals of the Essex County Cup with a 6-1 victory against a very spirited Doddinghurst side.
Paul Moody made several changes to the starting line up leaving the experience of Bradley Hooper, Danny Janes, Ricky Brown and Jack Avery on the bench, with now the backlog of fixtures coming up, keeping the whole squad match fit was most important.
Blues went close on several occasions, when on 31mins they produce a fine break down the right hand side from Lewis Pether who in turn found Brody Horne who then beat 2 players then played an inch perfect pass to the oncoming Scott Perkins on the left who took a touch and placed the ball into the corner of the net from the most acute of angles.
Shortly before half time the visitors nearly levelled when a long kick from the Doddinghurst keeper was not dealt with and their striker chipped Keeper Jamie Sorrell, which was just a touch to high and clipped the crossbar.
H-T 1-0
Doddinghurst started the second half brightly and their constant closing down of the Blues was rewarded when their striker pounced on a mix up between the Blues keeper and a defender, hence the ball being poked home to level the score on 49 mins. Both teams then squandered several chances before Billericay finally got a grip and went ahead after a fine run and shot from Billy Radley forcing a great save from the Doddinghurst keeper only for the ball to fall straight in to the path of the oncoming Jake Swift who calmly took a touch and blasted home from close range on 60mins. A fews mins later the host were now well and truly in full comand and extended their lead on 65mins when once again after some fine individual play, this time from Brody Horne who from 20 yards out was able to fire the ball into the keepers left hand corner with pinpoint accuracy to make it 3-1.
Paul Moody then made a treble substitution with Brown, Hooper and Janes coming on for the tireless Billy Schulver, and impressive Scott Perkins and hard working Danny Pinnuck. it wasn’t long before Hooper made his mark with a superb drive from 22 yards out and to the keepers right on 71mins to make the score 4-1. Billericay now left no room for error or mercy as they continued to press putting this tie firmly to bed, this time with a great run down the left and shot from Ricky Brown on 79 mins which took a deflection into the path of Hooper who after some fancy footwork put the ball into the back of the visitors net. The final say and goal of the game was had by Blues Captain Tom Vickers who a rifle a supreme drive from a full 35 yards out to cap a merorable cup victory.
