Many thanks to Ian Rudkins who sent a scan of the programme from our first Essex Senior Cup Final, (and our only victory), a 3-2 win against now defunct Epping Town in 1976, back when we were in the Essex Senior League. John Geddes, Freddie Clayden and Geoff Aslett were the Blues goalscorers that day.
Many thanks to Warner Pidgeon, the vicar at Christ Church, Billericay, who alerted me to this Youtube video of Roy Wren (our ex-trainer, who sadly died last year) appearing on the BBC's 'Songs of Praise' in 1982.
The clip includes some great footage of Roy and the boys in the dressing room, and in training.
Billericay Town's history in the F.A. Vase, F.A. Trophy and F.A. Cup is fairly well documented, but it came as somewhat of a surprise to me to discover that we had once played in the F.A. Amateur Cup.
This programme from 30th September 1972 is for a home fixture against Clapton in the 72/73 competition - the penultimate year before professionalism was allowed into the amateur game, and the competition was abolished.
Anybody know the outcome of this game? Or have details of any other games the Blues played in the Amateur cup? If so, please drop me a line at
Blues fan Ian Rudkins has kindly provided me with scans of some rare old BTFC programmes (many thanks Ian!).
So to kick off the new Retro section I'm featuring a 4 page programme from the 1960/61 season when we were playing in the Chelmsford and Mid Essex Football League - Premier Division. In these days, Billericay Town were playing up at Sun Corner next to the Archer Hall and were sporting an 'Old Gold & Blue' kit.
I wasn't aware that we were issuing programmes as early as this until recently (I do have one older one from the same season), so I wonder if anybody has any from earlier seasons? If so, scans to
would be much appreciated!
We lost this game 4-1 according to the report in the following week's programme.
