Staines Town v Billericay Town

Isthmian League Premier Division. Saturday 9 December 2017, 3:00pm.

This weekend The Blues will travel to Surrey to face third place Staines Town.

Whilst Billericay Town were beating Leiston at The AGP Arena Staines were playing at Needham Market where they won 2-1. This was their third away win in a row having beaten Harrow Borough 2-1 and Merstham 5-1.

The Swans last home match was on Saturday 11 November 2017 as Tonbridge Angels visited Wheatsheaf Park. Former Blues player Nathan Elder gave Angels the lead just before half time with Staines equalising 5 minutes after the restart. Another former Blue, George Beavan, was sent off five minutes later and Staines ended the match with a 3-1 victory.

Staines Town was originally formed in 1892 and was known by several names until the club folded in 1935. They were reformed before World War and were founder members of the Hellenic League after the war. They switched to the Spartan League in 1958 and stayed there until they advanced to the Athenian League in 1971.

It took The Swans just one season to win promotion to the First Division of the Athenian League and they finished runners-up a year later. In 1973 they joined the Isthmian League.

They spent much of the next few years moving between Isthmian League One and the Premier Division with two second place finishes in the Premier Division in 2008 and 2009, the latter seeing them beat Sutton United and Carshalton Athletic to gain promotion to the Conference South.

Staines spent six seasons in the Conference South before being relegated back to the Isthmian League in 2015.

It appears that Billericay Town and Staines Town first met on Saturday 26 September 1981 at Wheatsheaf Park for an Isthmian League Premier Division match. This was The Blues first season in the Premier Division. Clair Damudas scored for Billericay as they drew 1-1.

Including that first meeting in 1981 these two clubs have met on 32 occasions. The Blues have won 12 of the meetings with Staines winning 13, and seven draws.
