Billericay Town v Basildon United
Essex Senior Cup 4th Round. Wednesday 13 December 2017, 7:45pm.

Town invite local club Basildon United to The AGP Arena on Wednesday for the first competitive meeting between the two clubs since 2013.

The Bee’s are members of the Essex Senior League, a competition they were founder members of in 1971 with several teams, including Billericay Town, and have won a record five times.

The Bee’s are currently sitting second in the Essex Senior League.

History

Basildon United was formed in 1963 as a junior side called Armada Sports before switching to adult football and adopting their current title four years later.

United won four consecutive Essex Senior League titles and joined the Athenian League in 1980. They finished as runners-up in their only season at that level and then joined the Isthmian League.

They won the Isthmian League 2 in 1984 but were relegated four seasons later and then resigned from the Isthmian League in 1991, due to the prohibitive cost of travelling, to rejoin the Essex Senior League.

A record fifth Essex Senior League title was won in 1994.

The first time Billericay Town and Basildon United met was on 28 August 1971 at New Lodge. Two goals from Fred Clayden and a third from Steve Bone gave The Blues a 3-1 win.

The two clubs met four times this season with Town winning all four matches.

This week’s meeting will be the first time Town and United have met since October 2013, for another Essex Senior Cup match. Goals from Junior Luke, Joey Benjamin, James Robinson (2) and Sean Bonnett-Johnson gave The Blues a 5-1 victory.

Head to Head
The Blues lead the way in this Basildon Borough derby having won 20 of the 36 meetings between the two clubs. The Bees have won 10.

Town have scored 59 goals and United 34.
