Billericay Town v Tooting & Mitcham United
Isthmian League, Premier Division. Saturday 23 September 2017, 3:00pm.
After the clubs involvement in the F.A. Cup this week it’s back to League action as we welcome Tooting & Mitcham to The AGP Arena.
Tooting have found their return to this level difficult to adjust to so far this season having still not collected their first league victory.
Last weekend they exited the F.A. Cup with a 3-1 defeat, at home, against Folkestone Invicta. The Terrors had beaten Merstham in the previous round.
Tooting F.C. were formed in 1887 and Mitcham in 1912. The two clubs became united in 1932.
During the 1930’s they joined the Athenian League moving to the Isthmian League in 1956. The following season they were champions, which they repeated two seasons later.
A high point in the clubs history was their F.A. Cup run during the 1975-76 season. Having beaten Romford and Leatherhead they drew 2-2 at Swindon Town before beating the league team 2-1 in the replay.
They were knocked out in the fourth round proper by Bradford City.
It appears that Billericay first met Tooting on Monday 12 April 1982, Town’s first season in the Isthmian League Premier Division. The match, held at New Lodge, ended goalless.
The return match took place 15 days later ended with the hosts winning 3-1. Doug Young scored for The Blues.
Visiting fans travelling by train will find two taxi ranks outside the station. A Cab journey to the ground should cost around £5.00.
Alternatively the High Street is a short walk from the train station and is home to several pubs, restaurants and café’s. The High Street is 10-15 minute walk from the ground.
