Lowestoft Town v Billericay Town
Isthmian League, Premier Division. Tuesday 15 August 2017, 7:45pm.
The Blues first away match of the season is the 95-mile journey in to Suffolk to face the Trawler Boys.
Lowestoft started their season with an away trip to Leatherhead, which ended in a 2-1 win for the hosts.
Lowestoft were formed in 1887 when two clubs merged together. Like Billericay they added ‘Town’ to the clubs name later.
Lowestoft Town joined the Isthmian League in 2009 having won the Eastern Counties League. They were founder members of the Eastern Counties League in 1935 and were the competitions first champions.
Prior to this they’d made their mark on non-league football by finishing as runners-up in the F.A. Amateur Cup in 1900 to Bishop Auckland, the competitions most successful club.
Billericay last travelled to Crown Meadow last November. An own goal was enough to earn The Blues a point.
It appears that Lowestoft Town and Billericay Town first met in the Preliminary Round of the FA Trophy on 6 September 1980. The match ended goalless in Suffolk but Billericay won the replay 7-1 at New Lodge, the goals came from Fred Clayden 2, Keith Massingham 2, Paul Scott 2 and Dave Groom.
Crown Meadow has been the clubs home since 1894 and is a 10-minute walk from the train station. This is very handy on a Saturday but the last train leaves Lowestoft just after 9pm on Tuesday.
