CONCORD RANGERS v BILLERICAY TOWN

This Boxing Day Billericay Town will be travelling 15 miles on to Canvey Island to face Concord Rangers.

Rangers and Town met three times last season, with the first at New Lodge in August. Moses Emmanuel scored as The Blues rescued a point against a tough Rangers side.

The second meeting, in November 2018, was also at New Lodge. Jake Robinson and Adam Coombes scored to help The Blues progress in the Essex Senior Cup.

The third match of the season ended in a 2-2 draw on Canvey Island. Connor Smith drew Town level with an effort from distance. Rangers keeper left it as he expected it to sail over the bar, but as it passed him it dipped and found the back of the net.

Moses Emmanuel put Billericay ahead but Concord scored a late equaliser with Town down to 10 men.

Town’s first recorded Boxing Day match came on 26 December 1969. Billericay Town Sports Club, then managed by John Newman, were members of the Essex Olympian League and hosted Chadwell Heath at Archer’s Field. Blues legend Fred Clayden scored twice as Town won 4-1 on their way to the Olympian League title. Chadwell finished as runners-up, but only on goal difference.

This Boxing Day will see the 14th meeting between Concord Rangers and Billericay Town. The first took place in the Essex Thameside Trophy at New Lodge on 25 February 1997. Danny Hazle scored twice as Town won 3-2.

Town have won 4 of the previous meetings with Rangers winning 3. The Blues have scored 13 times to The Beach Boys 21.

FAMILIAR FACES

Greg Cundle came to Town on loan from Gillingham in 2016-17. He scored 4 goals in his 8 starts for The Blues. Two of those goals came in the F.A. Cup Third Round win against Chippenham Town.

Kosovo-born Kresh Krasniqi joined Concord from Heybridge Swifts. He had played professionally in Cyprus before joining Billericay Town in 2016. He was an important part of Craig Edward’s side but found himself surplus to requirements as the club was taken over and the wage bill increased to attract new players. He made 36 starts for The Blues with 14 from the bench. He scored 3 goals, including the opener in a 3-0 win against Worthing, with the second goal being scored by Greg Cundle.
