Billericay Town Football Club (BTFC) are delighted to announce the launch of our Football Academy which will be ready for the new college year in Sept 2021. After a rigorous process we have now settled on a partnership with Chelmsford College. This combination allows us to offer a top quality football programme alongside excellent education options. Our aim is to ensure that we produce well balanced football professionals who possess as wide a set of career opportunities as possible.

BTFC Co-owner Nick Hutt said ‘This initiative is something that we have been planning since we took over the club and one that we believe the community will fully embrace. Obviously, the new 3G pitches were a big step towards this becoming a possibility and we now have an excellent facility to use for the Billericay Town FC Academy. Together with Danny Brown (Colts Head coach) we spoke to numerous other academies and their partners. In fact, we found that people were extremely keen to work with us. One of the primary objectives though was to ensure that our education partner could provide a broad range of education options rather than just a more traditional BTEC in Sports Science. With Chelmsford College we identified an educator who not only had over 10 years’ experience of running academies but were flexible in terms of the qualifications that an individual could aim for. From a BTEC / NCFE Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise, through to apprenticeships and studying subjects such as Business, Engineering, Electrical or gaining English and Maths GCSEs – the College provides the ability to ensure that we can provide an education to give students the best route into a career – be that inside the game or out in the wider world.’

Principal of Chelmsford College, Andy Sparks said ‘We are thrilled to partner with Billericay Town Football club to create the Billericay Town Football Club Academy. Our aim is to create outstanding opportunities for our learners and I know that our combined team of specialist coaches, former professional footballers, goalkeepers and health professionals are excited to begin working with the new academy players.

To outline the foundation plan in a little more detail :-

  • The foundation will run for both Boys and Girls.
  • We will be looking for 20 X U16 to U18 girls as well as 20 x U17 and 20 U19 boys to join the Academy.
  • Chelmsford College will also assess their current Academy squad and specialist goalkeepers, with a view to bringing them across to BTFC to complete their second year.
  • BTFC Academy Coaching staff will be a mix of highly experienced Chelmsford College and Billericay Town FC personnel. This mixture allows us to both utilise external expertise and provide a firm link to our pathways and our existing senior teams.
  • Academy students will study on a daily basis but be brought to New Lodge for training for part of the curriculum on Mondays, Wednesdays (match day) and Fridays.

BTFC Co-owner Greg Lake said, ‘This is a really exciting development for the club and I can’t wait to see it come to fruition. Nick and I share the same vision for this new element of the club. We are delighted with our new partner and the opportunities that the Academy presents for both the Football club and the students in our community. It will be an elite programme as we expect to have a large number of applicants to fill our limited first set of places. The football element will be exciting but so are the education prospects that the Academy will be able to provide. We hope that this balance appeals as much to parents as the students themselves.

Further details will be issued early in the New Year. This will includes details of how to apply as well as the initial trial dates for January and February (Covid restrictions permitting).
