HISTORY
Braintree Town were founded in 1898, but were know as Manor Works. This was the works team for the Crittall Window Company. The club’s name was changed to Crittall Athletic in 1921 and then Braintree & Crittall Athletic in 1968.
The football club severed links with the window company, becoming Braintree F.C. in 1981, and then Braintree Town in 1983.
The first meeting between the two clubs took place as New Lodge hosted Braintree & Crittall Athletic of the Eastern Counties League for the second round of the East Anglian Cup. Fred Clayden scored twice with Steve Philcox and Terry Sharpe adding to the score line and a 4-1 victory.
The last time the two teams met was on a Tuesday evening during the opening week of the season. Matt Rhead put Town ahead from the spot to equalise just minutes as The Irons went ahead. Moses Emmanuel put Billericay ahead on the hour mark with Braintree then quickly equalises. Ten minutes later Charlie Wassmer out jumped his marker to head home from a corner and seal a 3-2 away win.
