Billericay Town v Tonbridge Angels
Isthmian League Cup Final. Wednesday 12 April 2017, 7:30pm.
The Isthmian League Cup was first held in 1975 and was won by Tilbury.
There will be a new name on the League Cup this season as neither club has ever lifted this trophy. Billericay Town have reached the final once before, losing to Fisher Athletic.
Tonbridge visited promotion-chasing Havant on Saturday hoping to cement their position on the play-offs. They left Hampshire with a 2-0 defeat and now sit in seventh place.
Prior to this they’d left Hendon with a 2-1 victory, only their second in the last 10 matches.
A cup final against any side will be a difficult match. Against a strong Tonbridge side that includes former Town favourites George Beavan and Nathan Elder this will be an extremely tough match that no one will be taking lightly.
This season both clubs have one win against each other. Tonbridge Angels won 1-0 in Kent, back in August.
The first match of 2017 for both clubs was at New Lodge. Goldy Capela scored Town’s first goal but Billy Bricknell’s strike proved to be the winner on the day.
It appears that Billericay Town and Tonbridge Angels first met in 1998 for an FA Cup 2nd Round Qualification match, whilst The Angels were still members of the Southern League South Division.
Town ran out 4-0 winners thanks to goals from Battram (2), Adekola and Ridout.
Billericay Town will be wearing their orange away kit. Older fans can remember Town wearing orange in the final of the Essex Senior Trophy back in 1980. They drew 0-0 against Brentwood at Aveley but won the replay 2-1 at Basildon United.
Olly Sprague is cup-tied so misses out. Fans favourite Jack Giddens is expected to start in goal.
This season’s cup final is being held at Carshalton Athletic’s War Memorial Sports Ground, Colston Ave, Sutton, Carshalton SM5 2PW.
Kick-off is at 7:30pm.
