Billericay Town will welcome Southend United to New Lodge again on Tuesday 29th October. This will be the third ‘non-friendly’ match between the two clubs.

Billericay have been playing clubs from the town of Southend-on-Sea for a long time. The earliest known fixture with a Southend club took place on Saturday 18 November 1893. The opponents, simply known as ‘Southend’ were beaten 1-0.

This fixture took place 12 years before Southend United Football Club were formed.

During the 1970’s Southend United ‘A’ took part in the Essex Senior League and they faced John Newman’s Billericay Town side 10 times in League and League Cup action.

Town were the dominant side in the Essex Senior League during this period and beat The Shrimpers ‘A’ side 8 times, only losing twice.

Southend United have sent a team to New Lodge for each of the last two seasons. On 24 October 2017 United visited in the Third Round of the Essex Senior Cup. Hat-tricks from Billy Bricknell and Jake Robinson helped Town to a 7-3 win. Danny Walker also scored that night.

Town went on to beat Chelmsford City 2-1 in the final at Colchester United.

Last January the two teams met in the Essex Senior Cup Quarter-Final. Billy Clifford scored a hat-trick that night, including one from the spot, and Town won 6-3. Ross Lafayette, Kieron Cadogan and Adam Coombes also found the back of the net.

The Blues were beaten in the semi-final at East Thurrock United, who went on to beat Chelmsford City in the final.
