When Glenn joined the club in November 2016, he told us that he wanted to improve the ground as well as take the club to a higher level whilst breaking records and bringing trophies to the club.
The attendances grew in this time. Thirteen of the clubs 30 highest ever attendances occurred since 2016. The clubs highest ever attendance is now 4,582, this was for a pre-season friendly match against a West Ham United XI on 8 August 2018. Town won the match 3-1.
The Blues biggest competitive attendance was an F.A. Cup match that took place in September 2017. A crowd of 3,400 sold out the limited capacity ground as Town were beaten by Leatherhead.
The 2017-18 season ended with an average league attendance of 1,057. The following season, Town’s first back in the Conference North, ended with an average league crowd of 1,121. These are the two highest average league crowd’s on record for Billericay Town.
At the end of Glenn’s first season at the club Town had lifted the Isthmian League Cup for the first time, led by Harry Wheeler.
The following season The Blues had won the Isthmian League Premier Division title, the Essex Senior Cup and retained the Isthmian League Cup.
Billericay reached the F.A. Cup First Round Proper for two seasons’ in a row and ended the 2018-19 season in 8th position in the Conference South, the club’s second highest ever league finish.
Glenn bought many excellent players to the club but amongst his best signings were Matchday Media.
Amongst the players that came to Billericay Town under Glenn’s tenure were ex-West Ham United, Liverpool and England player Paul Konchesky, ex-Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder Jermaine Pennant, ex-Wolves defender Kevin Foley and ex-Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara.
Jake Robinson joined from Hemel Hempstead Town for a record fee of £24,000. This was then broken when Dean Inman was bought from Maidenhead United for £26,700.
Ricky Modeste became the first Blues player to be capped at international level. Modeste scored in Grenada’s 2-2 draw in Trinidad & Tobago. He later scored during his second appearance for Grenada as they lost to Belize.
Town fans knew it would be a rollercoaster ride, and they weren’t disappointed. Glenn has improved the facilities, attracted crowds and the media, signed some amazing players and bought silver ware to us.
Thank you Glenn.
