BILLERICAY TOWN v BATH CITY
We welcome Bath City back to New Lodge this weekend as the two sides face each other in The F.A. Cup.
This will be the sixth meeting between Town and City and the first in the Cup. It was only a month ago that Bath left Billericay with a point have equalised to cancel out Sam Deering’s early goal.
The Romans travelled to Swindon Supermarine in the previous round and won 4-0.
Bath City have a long and proud history in The F.A. Cup having first appeared in 1920. They reached the First Round Proper before being beaten by Hull City.
The last time The Romans made it to the First Round Proper was in 2011 when Dagenham & Redbridge needed a replay to get past them.
In 1931-32 they beat Nunhead in the First Round 9-0 to set up a home match against Football League Division 3 South Crystal Palace. City won the match 2-1 but lost 2-0 at Brentford in the Third Round.
They have a good pedigree as Giant Killers. In 1952 they knocked Southend United out in the First Round and in 1959 they beat Millwall and then Notts County to reach the Third Round. During the 1992-93 season they won 3-2 at Cardiff City in the First Round and beat Hereford 2-1 the following season. They beat Grimsby Town in the First Round as recently as 2009.
They reached the Third Round again in during the 1934-35 season but were beaten 2-0 at Norwich City. Since then they’ve been beaten in the Third Round by Brighton & Hove Albion (1959-60), Bolton Wanderers (1963-64) and Stoke City. They took Stoke to a replay at Twerton Park in 1994-95.
