Needham Market v Billericay Town
Isthmian League Premier Division. Saturday 22 April 2017, 3:00pm
Needham Market have had a great season. They’ve spent most of it sitting near the top of the table. They currently sit seventh, only 3 points off of the play-off spots but their -3 goal difference may be what keeps them out of the top five.
As Town were winning their Essex derby Needham drew 1-1 at Suffolk neighbours AFC Sudbury, who had been relegated before the match had kicked off.
Two days before this The Marketmen hosted, and beaten, Harrow Borough 3-1.
This is the last competitive match for Town, who completed a double over Canvey Island on Bank Holiday Monday.
Needham’s season doesn’t finish until Monday 8 May when they face Lowestoft Town in the Suffolk Premier Cup.
Last time the two clubs met was on a Wednesday night in February. Goals from Abs Seymour, Rob Swaine, Billy Bricknell, Isaac Layne and an Adam Cunnington double gave Town a 6-0 victory at New Lodge.
It appears that the first meeting between the two clubs was only last season. Tom Derry opened the scoring for Town but an 86th minute equaliser earned Needham a point.
The Blues travelled to Suffolk on a Tuesday night in October for the return fixture. A Teddy Nesbitt hat-trick gave Town a 3-1 victory.
End of Season Awards
The End of Season Awards were announced after the victory against Canvey Island on Monday.
Managers Player of the Season: Joe Ellul
Young Player of the Season: Will Putt
Golden Boot: Billy Bricknell
Len Dewson Merit Award: Keith Riley
Harry Wheeler has been announced as the new Joint Manager.
With everyone in the squad being given the chance to play for a place in the team for next season Town could see a much changed line up for this match.
As of next season we will be looking for a new match report writer. If you would like to help contribute towards the clubs coverage of matches please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
As always the BTIS will be travelling to the match, and all Town fans are welcome to join them. They will meet at Billericay station at 9:30am and hope to get the 9:37am train.
It looks like the trains will actually be running from Billericay so Blues fans will be travelling to Shenfield before changing there for trains to Ipswich, possibly with a change at Colchester.
From Ipswich there is a replacement bus service to Needham Market. The train station is a 10-minute walk from the football ground.
